As in any organization, fundraising is a crucial component in the continuing success of our chapter. The fundraising committee is responsible for organizing fundraising events each semester to help finance various projects throughout the year. Past fundraisers have included organizing several bake sales throughout the year, coordinating penny wars during band camp to purchase new yard markers, selling garment bags and water bottles to marching band members, and designing an original t-shirt to sell at the MUMB’s annual Band Day.
Our chapter also participates in a number of collaborative projects each year. Our biggest fundraiser includes marketing and distributing care packages to freshman students on campus twice a year. We also work closely with the university to help collect and recycle used ink cartridges in the campus dorms, as well as volunteering as van drivers, session chairs, registration table assistants, meal ticket takers, and photography assistants at the International Lilly Conference on College Teaching held annually here at Miami University.
Our most time consuming fundraiser, however, is meant to give back to those less fortunate. Now an annual event, Delta Epsilon spends countless hours throughout most of the year preparing for Valentunes, a local benefit concert featuring talented acts from across Miami University’s campus. All proceeds of the concert benefit the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation, which helps to provide support to struggling music programs in the form of new and refurbished instruments, as well as repairs on existing instruments. Over the past few years, we were able to donate over $4,000 to this worthwhile cause and will continue to show our support in the years to come.åÊ For more information, please visit our website at www.mutbs.org/valentunes.
